With all of the comic book-inspired films that have come out in recent years, a question popped into my head last night.
Who are today’s top ten most popular superheroes?
To answer this question, I did some digging, and came up with a simple equation that comprises a 1) combination of the latest comic book sales information via eBay and 2) the year-to-date, domestic U.S. box office take for movies (animated adaptations not included) starring a comic book character in the lead/titular role.
If the character hasn’t had a stand-alone film, s/he will not be on this list. For example, Deadpool ranked number 10 in comic book sales, according to eBay, but hasn’t had a movie released yet.
Additionally, team-ups will not be included either. Notable team-ups include the Avengers and the X-Men-two of the highest-grossing comic book and film franchises running.
Without further adieu, here are the top 10 superheroes today!
Just in case you were wondering, Avengers is the second-highest selling comic book today as well as the second-highest grossing superhero movie(s) of all-time.
Numbers don’t always tell the entire story but this comic character list is a “partially-scientific” snapshot of today’s superhero landscape.
