In honor of Women’s History Month, I thought about the top female superheroes depicted on the big screen.
There are many candidates so rather than select one, I’ll give you my top four (in alphabetical order):
1. Black Widow 🕷️ is synonymous with Scarlett Johansson in terms of cinema.
From her debut in Iron Man 2 (2010 to her final live action appearance as the character in her titular film in 2021, she’s arguably the second most popular female superhero movie character behind the last heroine on my list.
2. Captain Marvel (2019) 🌟 was the first female-led superhero movie to surpass $1 billion in box office sales. Despite the tepid response to the sequel, The Marvels (2023), Brie Larson’s hero can not be ignored for its pioneering impact.
3. I’ve discussed Storm 🌪️ previously on this blog, and my case for her is clear.
4. Wonder Woman 💫 was and still is the seminal super-heroine. She is the First Lady of Superheroes—a member of the Justice League’s Trinity, also comprising Superman and Batman.
My point is validated by the fact that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman (2017) not only nearly made a billion dollars, the film was the best reviewed DCEU movie up until that point.
She’s still #1!
