With Black Adam (October 21), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 11) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (December 21) right around the corner, I want to take a quick look back at the superhero movies released so far in 2022.
My 2022 (this far) superhero movie rankings are below.👇
- The Batman (March 4) — still my number one until further notice. This gritty, detective film noir is currently the best comic book movie released this year.
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (May 6) — the trailer outshines the film but it is still a very entertaining watch. The fan service/superhero cameos feel a bit forced, but whatever…
- Thor: Love and Thunder (July 8) — Gorr the God Butcher, portrayed by the great Christian Bale, and Lady Thor, portrayed by the great Natalie Portman, are the standouts here. But the movie shrinks beneath the shadow that it’s predecessor Thor: Ragnarok casts.
- Morbius (April 1) — Unfortunately (sigh) more B.S. from Sony Studios, who continue to dilute the Marvel movie brand, especially with its ill-conceived, confusing mid-credits scenes.
