Happy New Year to geeks and non-geeks around the world!
It was a relatively quiet year for the comic book movie genre in 2015, but there was still a gem among this year’s trio of major superhero-themed releases.
#3 Coming in at number three, by default, is the infamous reboot of Fantastic Four. The movie was panned so much by family, friends and fellow geeks that I did see it. And I still haven’t seen it On-Demand. I am waiting for the “free” cable offering this year…maybe.
#2 I have very mixed feelings on Avengers: Age of Ultron. On one hand, I thought it was a very solid film that is too harshly judged by the “once-in-a-generational” achievement that was Marvel’s the Avengers. On the other hand, I found it to be a glorified superhero mash-up, pushing future Marvel Cinematic Universe product. It’s easily one of the more polarizing superhero movies in recent years.
#1 was by far the biggest surprise of the year-perhaps of the past several years in this genre. I will concede that I was not that optimistic seeing the world’s tiniest hero depicted on-screen. But after witnessing the gradual build-up conveyed in the movie’s neat trailers, I gradually warmed to the idea of an Ant-Man film. Bolstered by the scene-stealing Hank Pym (portrayed by Michael Douglas) and “Luis” (portrayed by Michael Pena), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) aka Ant-Man emerged as the mightiest superhero of all in 2015.
Here’s looking forward to a banner comic book movie year in 2016 and beyond!

Ant Man? Really? It was definitely an unexpected solid movie. But number 1 for the year? That’s a tough one.

@EddySalomon Yes, Ant-Man. It was really good but there were only three major comic book movie films, so that’s part of the reason why I ranked it #1. You thought Age of Ultron was a better, more re-watchable film?
