From the late, great Alec Guinness to the current, great Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan Kenobi has arguably been the best-casted Star Wars character of all-time. And McGregor’s fantastic performance in the current Disney+ miniseries solidifies my claim.
But let’s spare the pleasantries and get right to why Obi-Wan is the greatest Jedi of all-time.
- He defeated the very formidable Darth Maul in Episode I. Although Maul later returned, he was left permanently damaged.
- He fought Jango Fett to a draw. Considering that he had to deal with Fett on the slippery water world of Kamino, I’m giving Kenobi kudos for largely dominating the pesky Mandalorian in Episode 2.
- He annihilated the alien cyborg General Greivous with a blaster to the heart 💔 in Episode 3. Although not a Sith, Greivous was trained in the Jedi arts.
- He left Anakin Skywalker for dead in Episode 3. Ultimately, not finishing Skywalker off proved to be foolish, as the former later felled Obi-Wan in Episode IV.
- He learned to communicate with his former mentor Qui-Gon Jinn after Episode 3, a skill that he would later use to guide Luke Skywalker.
- In Episode IV, he breached the seemingly airtight Death Star security system, allowing Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca and Han Solo to escape Darth Vader’s vile clutches.
