Is the Skeleton Crew kinda cheesy? It is. But is it fun? It damn sure is!
If the Goonies, Explorers, Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars had a baby, this show would be it. It is clearly inspired by this assortment of fantasy films, mostly from the 1980’s.
And that’s a large part of why I love the show.
It pays homage to these inspirations while crafting its own, unique Star Wars tale. The kids are both adorable and feisty.
Jude Law is splendidly wearing the black hat, as a pseudo-Jedi baddie named Jod Na Nawood. Now that’s a Star Wars name for you!
He’s typecast as per his recent movies, but I still look forward to seeing more of his character in season two perhaps.
I will offer no spoilers to anyone that has not yet seen the show. However, whether you have seen it or not, I strongly believe that it is the best Star Wars production since the first season of Andor.
Rebellions are built on hope; and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew provides just that—hope for a shaky franchise!
Note: There is another notable 1980’s “appearance” that I forgot to mention. Hint—It’s a “family matter” of sorts. You’ll know it when you see it.
