The answer to the title of this post is quite simple and emphatic. I’ll take Spider-Man: Brand New Day all day, every day over Avengers: Doomsday. I know. I know. I haven’t seen either but below 👇 are the two main reasons I feel the way I do.
Reason #1
The fourth installment of the MCU’s Spider-Man franchise is a self-constrained story, following the trials and tribulations of Peter Parker, MJ and Ned. Recurring characters with a connected story that spans across 10 years of movies, make for a cohesive stony plot.
Avengers: Doomsday, despite all of its superhero IP mashup splendor, feels like a group of strangers brought together for a reason that we’ll find out in-film.
Can it work? Sure, it can. With good acting, buoyed by the return of Robert Downey, Jr., and deft direction, by the Russo Brothers, I’m cautiously optimistic that the film will deliver. However, the trailer feels like of corporate-driven buffet of superheroes—highlighting some familiar faces (Captain America, Iron Man and X-Men) and some forgotten (Shang-Chi and Namor) ones.
Reason #2
This reason is tethered to reason number one. And it is even more concerning, when it comes to comparing Avengers: Doomsday to. “Spider-Man 4.” And I’ll let this article tell the story — not me!
In summary, Doomsday seems to be a rush job, production-wise. I pray that this doesn’t ruin the most-anticipated superhero party since Avengers: Endgame.
Oh and yeah, I’m still seeing it opening weekend despite these concerns. 😁
