Ever since Doctor Strange was mentioned in Captain American: The Winter Solider, I have been geeked for this film. With the possible exception of the Guardians of the Galaxy, this promises to be the strangest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie to-date.
According to Google, the word strange has some of the following meanings:
Let’s start with the word unusual. Thus far, MCU films have dabbled in the world of aliens and outer space (namely the “Guardians…” and Thor films). But this will be the first time that they will delve into mystical and supernatural forces. The Scarlet Witch story arc is similar in some ways (although her powers are explained by her exposure to an Infinity Stone). However, Doctor Strange promises to be a much more mind-binding experience.
The definition also states that strangeness is “hard to understand.” I couldn’t help but think of the movie Inception. I left that movie saying, “wow, that was great, but I didn’t totally get it.” The Doctor Strange trailer(s) visuals remind me a lot of Inception. And if they are any indication, I hope this movie is similarly enjoyable and hard to understand.
And lastly, will Doctor Strange feature things that have not been previously visited, seen or encountered? This quote below from Marvel’s wiki page says it all.
The hope here is that Doctor Strange will not only be a good film, but that it will live up to it’s superheroes surname.
