For those that celebrate Thanksgiving, I wish you a happy one. And for those who recently had a nerd-gasm after watching the new Captain America Civil War trailer, I am here to tell you that I share your enthusiasm.
And here are my primary reasons why:
- Continuity. I loved the fact that the opening scene in the new trailer picked up where the end-credits scene in Ant-Man left off, with an imprisoned Bucky Barnes being interrogated by Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. One of my favorite things about the MCU is its seamless transitions from one film to the next, and this teaser keeps that concept intact.
- General Ross. Sticking with the continuity theme above, it was nice to see Bruce Banner‘s former love interest’s cold father re-enter the fray. Ross was last seen in the end-credits scene of The Incredible Hulk, speaking to Tony Sark about each other’s superhero “problems,” so to speak. Given his dictatorial tendencies in The Hulk movie, he will be a fitting foil in a film that centers on the control and monitoring of superheroes.
- Captain America vs. Iron Man. “Captain, you seem a little defensive,” proclaims Iron Man. To which Captain America responds, “well, it’s been a long day.” As the two “friends-turned-foes” slowly walk towards one another, you know it’s about to be on!!
- Enter Black Panther. The outfit. Bad-ass. The flying kick-to-the-face of the Winter Soldier. Even more bad-ass. I simply can not wait to see T’Challa on-screen!
- Captain America and Winter Soldier vs Iron Man! In the fifth, and most riveting scene in the trailer, we get to see Cap and Barnes double-teaming Iron Man. This is arguably the most-anticipated fight scene in the MCU to-date. Seeing the Hulk flip around Loki was hilarious and watching the “Battle at the Mountaintop” between Captain America, Iron Man and Thor in Marvel’s the Avengers was “hella-cool,” but this could rival those scenes in terms of recall.
Enjoy your turkey and stuffing and keep replaying the Civil War trailer for the rest of the year. I know that I will!
