It’s only five days away, so it’s time for me to tune up for the three-hour epic that Avengers: Endgame promises to be. With 21 prior MCU films to choose from, it is not an easy feat to narrow the list down to the five films to get you ready for Endgame. But here goes.
#5 Iron Man π€
Without Iron Man (2008), there’s no Endgame. Kevin Feige’s gamble on the “then-troubled” star Robert Downey, Jr. paid off and then some.
The MCU’s first movie crushed expectations critically and commercially, and the rest is history.
#4 Captain America πΊπΈ
Captain America: The First Avenger is not the most exciting MCU entry nor is it the most compelling, but it is a solid introduction to the first, and arguably, the most important and most popular Avenger to-date.
Chris Evans has owned the role and boasts two of the franchise’s best sequels, in The Winter Soldier and Civil War.
And let’s not forget that it is our first introduction to an Infinity Stone, which is ultimately what the Infinity War movies are all about.
#3 Captain Marvel π
Not only is Captain Marvel the last MCU entry leading up to the “Endgame event,” it also gives us the background on how S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury first acquired the space stone.
One of the most important reasons to watch Carol Danvers embark on her journey of danger and discovery is to see how and why she left her pager π with Nick Fury.
#2 The Avengers π °οΈ
Marvel’s the Avengers is still arguably the greatest superhero event movie of all-time. The culmination of five preceding films in the first phase of the MCU‘s 22 picture journey, this film redefines the comic book movie genre.
With Captain America leading, Hulk smashing, Thor lightning-blasting, and Iron Man saving New York City, the Avengers is our first introduction to “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” fighting extraterrestrials sent by the ultimate villain, Thanos.
#5 Avengers: Infinity War π₯
Last, but definitely not least, if you only have time to watch one movie prior to “Endgame” weekend, this is it.
It’s the direct prequel to Avengers: Endgame. It ends with Thanos “dusting” half of existence and Nick Fury paging Captain Marvel before he is dusted himself.
On Thursday, I eagerly await to see how the Avengers will live up to their moniker and get revenge on Thanos while restoring half of existence.
My “geeked levels” are so high I feel like I am in the quantum realm.
