I am not sure whether the second Captain America Civil War trailer was the best comic book movie trailer that I have ever seen, but damn, it sure felt like it!
Where do we start?
The opening portion of the trailer starts off like previous MCU iterations, with an ominous musical score playing in the background, and a “location setting” shot without humans or heroes included.
But it builds like a crescendo and drops this on us! This, is the unveiling of Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier, out of a chamber of some sort. By opening with Barnes, the trailer is intimating that he will be at the center of this Civil War.
At this point, more context is being set up to explain the events that will set off the “war.” More specifically, General “Firebolt” Ross is explaining to Captain America, Falcon and others, that the collateral damage that they have inadvertently wrought in the past, has to be put in checked and accounted for.
Enter the Sokovia Accords.
Earth’s mightiest heroes proceed to debate over the pros and cons of the “Accords.” The argument spills over and yields the now-famous line (also featured in trailer #1) from Tony Stark to Steve Rogers, “sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth.”
Once that line is dropped, it’s basically on!
- The Black Panther enters the fray (his alter ego T’challa actually is shown weeping earlier; most assume after the death of his father) and the badass-ness begins! Actor Chadwick Boseman stated that his (Panther) character is not physically-enhanced in any way, but this trailer damn sure makes me question that statement.
- Had enough? Well, apparently Bucky Barnes and Tony Stark are just getting started.
- At the midway point, this is where the trailer really gets deep and dark. Most pundits feel that at least one or even two superheroes will perish in this film. Does this basically confirm War Machine’s fate? I know these movies often try to hit us with twists and turns, but it’s hard to imagine “Rhodey” surviving this one.
- After what seems like a brief “moment of silence,” the trailer regains steam with Starks smacking Rogers in the face. BAM!! And yes, it’s on again…and this is where it gets really crazy!!
- Black Panther is shown whupping Bucky’s a_s and repelling bullets.
- Scarlet Witch is shown telekinetically manhandling Vision. That is enough to make you nerd in your pants!
- And in arguably the coolest scene in the trailer (and paying homage to the seminal comic book cover), Ant-Man rides one of Hawkeye’s arrows into battle. How cool is that?
- In case you forgot about Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones, he’s featured too, pounding on someone as per usual.
- Then we get the tagline that will be repeated over and over leading up to the film, when Cap challenges Iron Man by saying, “I can do this all day,” which is an homage to the same lines he used in Captain America: The First Avenger.
- Last, and definitely not least, we witness the unveiling of “Underoos,” as Iron Man hilariously refers to him as-our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!
That’s my recap of the “best comic book movie trailer that I have ever seen.” Sure, I may be suffering from the “recency effect,” but that’s OK. I’m geeked, at a great time to be a geek, and I stand behind my statement!

It’s definitely by far one of the best comic trailers I’ve seen. The spidey cameo blew my mind. If the trailer is a reflection of how good this movie will be, I think they’re going to break even more box office records.

My hype levels are on the Force Awakens tier! “Poppa been smooth since days of UNDEROOS!” HAHA

See I wasn’t even as hyped for the star wars trailer. But I’m a trekkie so there’s that. But this trailer got me open like a token. (Some of you younger bucks are scratching your heads right now and thats ok. lol)
Ja Dawes says
Old E, you know I’m that Star Wars dude. But honestly, the Prometheus trailer was the biggest fake-out ever!
eddysalomon says
Possibly.
Miller says
Agreed. Just when I thought they’d set the bar with their first Civil War trailer, they drop this on us and completely blow it out of the water. Unbelievably great.
Ja Dawes says
I already copped tickets at Alamo Drsft House!

Yes and the Spidey cameo at end was fantastic
Now I hope we see no more Spidey until May 6th.
Run time for the movie is 127 – longest marvel movie ever. Happy that they decided to go for a longer film here.

Yes, loved the SPidey capper. I wasn’t HUGE on the costume “glare” and design, but that’s splitting hairs. This, by the trailer at least, feels like Marvel’s Avengers with heart, soul and pain. And I hope it delivers. Besides Star Wars: The Force Awakens I haven’t been this excited after viewing a trailer since perhaps the Prometheus one. And I trust it will be far superior to the latter!
