It’s a question that I have been asking myself since I caught wind that The Force Awakens was set to come out on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on April 1. And no, it’s not an April Fool’s Day joke!
In the past, when it’s a movies series that I love, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Dark Knight Trilogy or the original Star Wars trilogy, I not only bought them on digital TV, I also bought the stand-alone blu-rays/DVDs.
And on top of that, I would then buy the movie bundles. Take the Star Wars saga for example-I own that too!
But things are changing for me. Call it being more miserly in my older age or perhaps I’m just trying to be more calculated with my spending, even for passion purchases like Stars Wars and the MCU.
With this new movie-buying mentality in mind, here is my new order of purchase/viewing:
- Watch the fantasy/sci-fi movie of choice the opening weekend;
- Purchase the release on Digital HD as soon as it’s released. With handheld devices being able to play most high-speed cable providers’ movies, digital TV is a great, mobile medium!
- Hold off until the bundled “saga” blu-ray set is available. Yes, I still own a DVD tower! It’s my physical archive for all of my desert island classic movies!
