The latest trailer is pretty cool and the set photos are even cooler. But there are about 10 other things that have me hyped to see Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 in a few weeks.
- Baby Groot. Seriously, how cute is this ‘lil guy? And he can fight too.
- Mantis. The latest player added to the GOTG crew is a mystery character for most, outside of diehard Marvel comic book readers. Her depiction in the trailer is light and campy, but that just may be the tone of the clips. I’m guessing a bit more to her story arc will be depicted in the movie.
- Yondu. Star-Lord’s adopted father-figure appears to be an ally, if not a flat-out member of the GOTG. That would be a welcome addition for someone as badass as him. And for comic book geeks, it’s only right since.
- Thanos. Will the mad titan appear in a post-credits scene? My guess is yes, but I could be wrong, if they are saving him for Thor Ragnorak.
- Infinity Stone. We’ve been introduced to five Infinity Stones in the MCU thus far. Is this the film that we get the sixth stone?
- “Rocky, Rocky!” What’s the deal with Sylvester Stallone and the “mystery” character that he will portray? I will spare you the details, since his character has been recently leaked online.
- Nebula. Similar to Yondu, she appears to be an ally of the GOTG this time around. She is a direct adversary to the crew the first “Guardians,” but especially to her adopted sister Gamora. I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
- The Soundtrack. Simply put, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 is a hot album. There have been breadcrumbs left to suggest the song listings for Volume 2, but I’m figuring I won’t be disappointed.
- Kurt Russell. From Escape from New York to John Carpenter’s The Thing, Russell has been one of my favorite actors, especially in the sci-fi genre. When it was announced that he would play Star-Lord’s biological dad, I found it more than fitting.
- The Villain. The trailers have been cryptic in depicting just who the villain(s) might be. We see the GOTG battling a slew of creatures and other aliens, but it’s unclear who the main baddie is. MCU villains have not been strong (Loki aside). I am hoping that the tide will be turned, for the better, in this movie.
